An all-too-rare sight: my bicycle, not in the shed

I’m on week 3 of “The 12 Week Year”, and in the book there’s a section on accountability: a term most often used in the sense of “holding someone accountable for their actions” i.e. negative consequences for someone after bad behaviour of some kind. Instead of this approach, “Accountability as Ownership” is how the author frames it: “a character trait, a life stance, a willingness to own your actions and results regardless of the circumstances”.

This idea really hit home for me.

At the start of 2020 — oh the sweet, sweet early days of the fresh new decade! — I decided to make some life changes. 2019 was a standard sort of year for me, consisting of some music making and lots and lots of time away from home travelling and performing. For the first time in my life I started craving structure in my life. It was weird!

Having gone freelance aged 23 and buzzed around doing all sorts of photography/video/social media/comms jobs in the years since, I built up the music side of my life slowly alongside everything else. “Doing some music” was usually what happened last in the week, once my epic To Do list was complete OR, more often, didn’t happen at all because my epic To Do list never stood a chance of being completed.
